Rosemary explaining her colour system

May Meeting

Rosemary Humphries  -  Understanding Colour

Rosemary gave a very interesting and detailed analysis of how t o make colour choices for your paintings.

Rosemary uses a three colour system from which she chooses two close to each other on the colour wheel and one contrasting colour on the opposite side of the wheel. She practices by setting out the pure colour on a sketched wheel and then making all the possible two colour mixes; finally mixing all three colours to create a harmonising grey. No other colours are used. The pure colour is used for the parts of the painting to which you wish to draw the viewers eye to.

Rosemary only has one colour to represent each slice of the colour wheel in her palette. They are: Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Orange, Burnt and Raw Sienna, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Viridian Green, Winsor Blue, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine, Dioxane Purple (Winsor Violet)
