September Meeting  -  Botanical Being

Maria Clake-Wilson gave a fascinating and inspiring presentation about her influences and her textile art work based on natural dyes. Maria's company, Botanical Being, aims to enhance wellbeing and to make art with plant magic.

Maria demonstrated all the stages and processes involved in creating her natural dyed textiles and talked us through her projects, one of which was social media led and involved a collaboration of artists from all over the world.

Examples of Maria's completed dyed fabrics. The colours used are all extracted from plants grown in our gardens and countryside. Maria has developed a process whereby the natural dyes in leaves can be transferred directly onto the fabric as in these examples. Any dyes left over from these processes are not wasted, they are used to dye wool and yarns which she mainly uses for weaving textile artwork.

You can follow Botanical Being on Instagram or Facebook and you can visit Maria's studio and gallery at the Earl Soham Business Centre. Follow the long drive way to the side of Earl Soham Primary School.
